Golf Staff

chandlerChandler Withington, PGA

Head Golf Professional
As head of golf staff, he leads the team ensuring the highest level of service for the club’s members and guests. Prior to taking the helm at Hazeltine, Chandler worked at some of the top clubs in the country, including Seminole Golf Club in Florida and Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania. He is a member of the club’s contingent representing Hazeltine with local and national golf organizations such as the MGA, USGA, and PGA of America.

Mike Barge, PGA

Director of Instruction
Mike has been Director of Instruction at Hazeltine since 1986. In that time, he has received many awards, including Minnesota PGA Teacher of the year twice and Golf Digest’s Minnesota’s #1 Golf Instructor 6 times. Along with playing in five senior major championships and winning the Minnesota State Open in 2006, he has been named Minnesota PGA Player of the Year and Senior Player of the Year. We are fortunate to have Mike overseeing all instruction programs at the Club, including individual and group lessons, junior programs and specialty clinics.

Teaching Professional
Chris has been at Hazeltine since 2010, and has over ten years of teaching experience. He is becoming one of Minnesota’s leading young golf instructors. He loves working with all ages men/women but has a real passion for developing elite young junior golfers and helping them reach their full potential.

Josh Josh Luehmann, PGA

First Assistant

Josh is a native of Cedar Falls, Iowa and graduated from Simpson College (IA). Josh was most recently at Spring Hill Golf Club. Prior to his return to Minnesota, Josh was an assistant golf professional at Brookside Country Club in Columbus, Ohio for 7 years . Josh then elevated to head golf professional at Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club (OH) for two years.

AndyAndy Smith

Seasonal Assistant

Andy is a native of Grand Marais, Minnesota and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Stout where he played on the men’s golf team. Andy began his professional career at Superior National in Lutsen, Minnesota where he has spent the last three summers. Andy is currently spending his winters at Desert Mountain, Arizona. At Desert Mountain, Andy is working under Mike Scully, who was the professional at Medinah Country Club for the 2012 Ryder Cup. Andy is an accomplished player, having won the 2012 Minnesota Assistants Championship.

Nick2Nick Sage, PGA

Assistant Golf Professional

Nick is a native of Bloomington, Minnesota and a 2013 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s PGA Golf Management Program and earned his PGA Membership in January of 2014. Prior to joining Hazeltine as an Assistant Golf Professional, he spent the last four summers at Aronimink Golf Club (2013), Pebble Beach Golf Links (2012), Hazeltine National (2011), and Interlachen Country Club (2010). Working at such iconic clubs has instilled in him a passion for the history of golf clubs, and he looks forward to helping bring Hazeltine’s history to life.


Steffi2Steffi Neisen

Seasonal Assistant

Stefi is a native of New Prague, Minnesota and attends the University of Nebraska where she will graduate this next spring with a degree in education. Steffi played all four years on the women’s golf team while at Nebraska. Her playing highlights include six career top 10 finishes, along with qualifying for the national U.S. Women’s Amateur and U.S. Publinks Championship. Next fall Steffi will begin her school teaching career at Northfield High School where she will teach social studies.

AlexAlex Blume

Summer Intern

Alex is a native of Burnsville, Minnesota and currently attends Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina. Alex will be spending a six month internship with us this summer. Prior to joining our team Alex completed internships at Olympic Hills (2012) and Crystal Lake (2008 – 2011). Alex knows our property well, as he served as a marshal on the 18th hole of the 2009 PGA Championship.

James2James Brod

Summer Intern

James is a native of New Prague, Minnesota and currently attends the University of Nebraska where he is a freshmen enrolled in the Professional Golf Management Program. Working at Hazeltine will be James first experience as an intern, so please make him feel welcome! James is familiar with being around a golf operation as he has worked the last six summers at Minnesota Valley Country Club, along with two summers in the golf shop at New Prague Golf Club.

ErikaErika Jones

Summer Intern

Erika is a native of Parsippany, New Jersey and currently attends Coastal Carolina University where she is completing her junior year. Erika completed an internship at Essex County Country Club in New Jersey. Erika has a passion for the merchandising side of golf.
